As a student organization, we are members of the professional society, IISE. It is the world’s largest professional society dedicated to supporting Industrial Engineers. The support is through networking and development of people involved with continuous improvement and productivity initiatives. IISE is recognized globally which allows us to host many companies for networking events for all members at UW-Madison. Being a member of IISE opens you up to new friends and endless opportunities!
IISE Has Much to Offer
Professional Development
IISE offers many opportunities for members to develop professionally. We host resume workshops, interview workshops, internship panels and information sessions with companies who are hiring. In previous years, our internship panel has had employees from Grainger, Tesla, Disney, Huron, GE Healthcare, Amazon, Subzero, and more! The IISE network is very large so there are opportunities to connect and network with former and current members. Additionally, IISE has events with the ISyE department where members can receive career or graduate school advice. Joining IISE sets you up for professional success no matter which aspect of Industrial Engineering you are interested in!
Outreach
IISE is committed to giving back to the Madison community. We hold a few outreach events per semester to encourage our members to be involved and engaged in helping the community. In the past, we have volunteered at Madison’s Ronald McDonald House, Feed My Starving Children, UW’s Engineering Expo, and more. We have also participated in events to raise money, hosted personal hygiene and food drives, and written letters to nursing home residents when volunteering in person was unsafe.
Information Sessions
Every month, IISE will have at least one company come in and talk to us about what they do at their organization. They discuss what the company's goals are and the general structure of the company, as well as what roles are open to fill through internships, co-ops, and full-time jobs. We have companies from all the focus areas come in, so you can get a feel for what you like or keep pursuing the area you have chosen. Some companies that we have had in the past/that will be coming soon are GE, Baker Tilly, Deloitte, Mayo Clinic, Milwaukee Tool, Grainger, and so much more! This is a great opportunity to network with companies and make those key connections that will help you find the job that’s perfect for you after college. Come join, all are welcome!
